Who we are
My Plekkie (myplekkie.co.za and the My Plekkie app) is run by Elcolynx (Pty) Ltd, South Africa. We are responsible for the personal information My Plekkie handles, under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Questions or requests: [email protected].
The short version
- You can browse, save homes, compare and contact agents without an account.
- No advertising, no tracking cookies, no third-party analytics.
- When you send an enquiry, your details go to the agent for that property, and nobody else. We do not sell your information.
- You can delete your account at any time, and it erases your saved homes and alerts for good.
What we collect, and why
If you just browse
Nothing that identifies you. Homes you save, compare or recently viewed, and your language, are kept on your own device (in your browser's storage), not with us.
If you create an account
Your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash nobody can read), language, whether you want marketing emails, and the homes and searches you save. We use them only to run your account: to show your saved homes on all your devices and, if you ask, to tell you about new properties. You get marketing emails only if you ticked the box, and can unsubscribe at any time.
If you contact an agent
The enquiry form sends your name, phone number, email and message to the agency advertising the property. It arrives on their customer management system (Syndaro), and from there the agency is responsible for how they use it. The WhatsApp and Call buttons simply open your own WhatsApp or phone; we do not see those conversations.
To keep the service safe
A human check (Cloudflare Turnstile) on the sign-up and enquiry forms, and ordinary server logs, to stop abuse and spam.
Cookies
Only the ones needed: when you are signed in, cookies keep you signed in (the sign-in tokens cannot be read by the page), and one remembers your first name for the header. No advertising or tracking cookies. If you open a property's map, Google Maps loads, and Google may then set its own cookies.
Who handles it for us
- Cloudflare: serves the website and the human check.
- Syndaro (also Elcolynx): the system behind accounts, properties and enquiries. Its database is in the European Union (Ireland), so your information is stored outside South Africa, with a provider bound by strict data protection laws.
- Resend: sends our emails (confirmation, password reset).
- Google Maps and OpenStreetMap: the maps on property and search pages.
How long we keep it
Your account stays until you delete it. When you delete it, your saved homes and alerts are erased, and your name, email and password are removed from the account. An enquiry you sent to an agent stays with that agency, under their own records.
Your rights
Under POPIA you can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, and object to marketing. You can do most of this yourself under My account; for anything else, write to [email protected]. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Regulator: inforegulator.org.za.
Children
My Plekkie is for adults buying or renting property. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18.
Changes
If we change how we handle your information, we update this page and the date at the top.
